Behavior Management Counselor (BMC)
Job Description:
There are times when children at St. Ann’s Home are not able to function in their scheduled daily activities and require closer supervision. Responsibilities:
-
Supervise children temporarily who are unable to remain on their own unit, temporarily unable to remain in public settings or remain in their classroom.
-
Work to defuse or de-escalate a child who is experiencing emotional or behavioral difficulties.
-
Implement proper restraint techniques when a child is presenting a danger to himself or others.
-
Provide children in turmoil with the security of knowing that a firm and caring adult is in control.
-
Develop an understanding of issues underlying behavior problems and form appropriate relationships with children.
-
Attend treatment meetings or any other meetings if assigned by their supervisor.
-
Meets with parents, administrators, teachers, and/or therapists to address a particular need, intervention, or concern of a child or to help construct incentive programs which may motivate a particular student.
-
Assimilate a complex array of regulations and behavioral techniques and deploy them in a manner that helps the child learn rather than simply discipline undesirable behaviors.
Qualifications:
BMCs should have a minimum of a Bachelors Degree or an Associates Degree in childcare or human services. Previous experience in a residential treatment center facility or school setting is preferred. This may be waived if the applicant has experience in a similar setting.
